Unravelling Urban Tapestries: Deepening An Understanding Of Our Cities

On Octo­ber 12, 2024 we offer a spe­cial full day pro­gram for ICOM COMCOL mem­bers and part­ners from Imag­ine IC. As Imag­ine IC is cel­e­brat­ing it’s 25th anniver­sary, we are cre­at­ing a spe­cial one-day pro­gram in Ams­ter­dam South­east as part of the 2024 ICOM CAMOC & COMCOL con­fer­ence. Imag­ine IC has been orga­niz­ing her­itage-con­ver­sa­tions in and with the neigh­bour­hood for 25 years, giv­ing mean­ing to the things that matter.

Morn­ing pro­gram 
With inter­na­tion­al guests, Imag­ine IC will engage in con­ver­sa­tion about the impor­tance of find­ing a new bal­ance in her­itage work. About nego­ti­a­tions and ethics. About how both noise and silence need atten­tion.What hap­pens when observ­ing shifts in val­u­a­tion of exper­tise, or when open­ing up for con­ver­sa­tions about expec­ta­tions, what inequal­i­ties and pow­er rela­tions might emerge? How do shift­ing ideas about own­er­ship and author­i­ty influ­ence col­lect­ing  prac­tices?  
 
Dia­logue ses­sion “eth­i­cal con­cepts of con­tem­po­rary col­lect­ing” 
We will dis­cuss dif­fer­ent con­cepts of con­tem­po­rary col­lect­ing with Chrisch­ene Julius (Dis­trict Six, South Africa) 
Leen Bey­ers (MAS Antwer­pen, Bel­gium ), Jules Rijssen (Imag­ine IC, Nether­lands) and with mod­er­a­tor Isabelle Best (Allard Pier­son, Netherlands) 

After lunch we are excit­ed to offer two great work­shops: 

Unrav­el­ling Urban Tapes­tries: Lis­ten­ing to our Cities (3 hours) 
This inter­ac­tive work­shop wel­comes muse­um pro­fes­sion­als from around the world to dis­cov­er new per­spec­tives on urban ecologies. 

Join us in exer­cis­es that help us see­ing and lis­ten­ing to our cities in new ways, as we uncov­er the many peo­ple and places that make up our com­mu­ni­ties. We’ll lis­ten close­ly and share our expe­ri­ences, chal­leng­ing our­selves to see and think dif­fer­ent­ly about our sur­round­ings. After this hands-on expe­ri­ence, you’ll leave with new gained insights for and a curios­i­ty to build more under­stand­ing among the many peo­ple that make the cities. 

Work­shop will be giv­en by Sara Huang from Bureau Twist: The work of Sara Huang is influ­enced by Deep Democ­ra­cy (Process Ori­ent­ed Psy­chol­o­gy & the Lewis Method), the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Method, (mak­ing the abstract tan­gi­ble and con­crete) and visu­al facil­i­ta­tion. As a human cen­tred facil­i­ta­tor and heart-based con­sul­tant she becomes most alive when she gets to curate trans­for­ma­tion­al spaces for folx to recon­nect, reimag­ine and reshape and bet­ter future togeth­er.  
 
Emo­tion net­work­ing (2 hours) 
Grab your chance to find out what all this talk about emo­tions and her­itage is all about. The method Emo­tion net­work­ing is an exer­cise that pro­vides insights into com­pli­cat­ed inter­plays between emo­tions, inter­ests and dif­fer­ent sorts of knowl­edge, and between items of her­itage and peo­ple. The aim is for par­tic­i­pants to notice changes in these rela­tion­ships and to become (more) aware of the com­plex dynam­ics sur­round­ing her­itage. 
Work­shop will be giv­en by some­one of the Emo­tion net­work­ing team from the Rein­wardt Acad­e­my and Imag­ine IC.  

For the work­shops we have lim­it­ed spaces avail­able, so reg­is­ter quick.
