On October 12, 2024 we offer a special full day program for ICOM COMCOL members and partners from Imagine IC. As Imagine IC is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary, we are creating a special one-day program in Amsterdam Southeast as part of the 2024 ICOM CAMOC & COMCOL conference. Imagine IC has been organizing heritage-conversations in and with the neighbourhood for 25 years, giving meaning to the things that matter.
You can register here (registration closes October 3rd)
Morning program
With international guests, Imagine IC will engage in conversation about the importance of finding a new balance in heritage work. About negotiations and ethics. About how both noise and silence need attention. What happens when observing shifts in valuation of expertise, or when opening up for conversations about expectations, what inequalities and power relations might emerge? How do shifting ideas about ownership and authority influence collecting practices?
Dialogue session “ethical concepts of contemporary collecting”
We will discuss different concepts of contemporary collecting with Chrischene Julius (District Six, South Africa)
Leen Beyers (MAS Antwerpen, Belgium ), Jules Rijssen (Imagine IC, Netherlands) and with moderator Isabelle Best (Allard Pierson, Netherlands)
After lunch we are excited to offer two great workshops:
Unravelling Urban Tapestries: Listening to our Cities (3 hours)
This interactive workshop welcomes museum professionals from around the world to discover new perspectives on urban ecologies.
Join us in exercises that help us seeing and listening to our cities in new ways, as we uncover the many people and places that make up our communities. We’ll listen closely and share our experiences, challenging ourselves to see and think differently about our surroundings. After this hands-on experience, you’ll leave with new gained insights for and a curiosity to build more understanding among the many people that make the cities.
Workshop will be given by Sara Huang from Bureau Twist: The work of Sara Huang is influenced by Deep Democracy (Process Oriented Psychology & the Lewis Method), the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Method, (making the abstract tangible and concrete) and visual facilitation. As a human centred facilitator and heart-based consultant she becomes most alive when she gets to curate transformational spaces for folx to reconnect, reimagine and reshape and better future together.
Emotion networking (2 hours)
Grab your chance to find out what all this talk about emotions and heritage is all about. The method Emotion networking is an exercise that provides insights into complicated interplays between emotions, interests and different sorts of knowledge, and between items of heritage and people. The aim is for participants to notice changes in these relationships and to become (more) aware of the complex dynamics surrounding heritage.
Workshop will be given by someone of the Emotion networking team from the Reinwardt Academy and Imagine IC.
For the workshops we have limited spaces available, so register quick.
Enthusiastic about these workshops? In the week of the conference we will send out an email with the possibility to sign-up for one of the two workshops, limited space available.
